Useful things to know!

Afternoon all!

As you well know Open Beta on Khalidine begins tommorow, as such I felt it might be useful to let you know a few useful things and some of the stuff thats being worked on that won't be immediately avaliable.

First off, Khalidine has a custom speech system:

Speech

Fatigue system

Fatigue

Death and experience system

Death

A player guide to all these things is being put together that will also go through class changes, bug reporting and so on. But its not ready yet! Well its mostly ready, but i'd rather get it finished.

Character changes are many and manifold but just as a brief overview for those starting characters:

- All faerun PRCs are not allowed, for relatively obvious reasons, some though will be rebranded to become Khalidine specific classes during Beta. We'd welcome a discussion on specific classes and how they could fit the canon! (An exception is RDD which are unlikely to ever be rebranded)
- Sorceror's and Favoured Souls have slower spell progression deriving from the way that having an innate ability for either thing again doesn't really fit the canon. There is lore supporting this, though it isn't published yet!
- Aasimer and Tiefling are not allowed for the same reason, people in Khalidine don't breed with fiends and what not. Again, possibly both races could be rebranded if there is a conclusive argument to their necessity!
- There are now 61 skills, all derived from PnP. The class skills for each class are not entirely set up yet. Oh and identification is now derived from the Knowledge: Arcana skill - though this may change depending on if we can split the identification of different types of item to different skills.
- Paladin is presently disabled. This isn't a bug, the class is being changed to a Knight class open to all alignments.

The Lore

- Most of the lore is on a private wiki at the minute, we will be working to publish this over the next few weeks in a form we want it displayed. A brief(ish) IC guide to Khalidine is also in the process of being written which will allow players to appreciate all the basics without having to read masses of literature. Until this point please PM me on the forum and I will provide the information you want to build your classes.
- Leading on from this, to advance beyond level 4 in Khalidine you are required to submit a character biography. This is done via an online Character Manager, http://wm.khalidine.com/, there you can add your biography where it will be looked at and approved! You can do this at any point, and for prompt service i reccomend doing so a comfortable time before your about to hit level 4.

Information on Gare itself (where Solan is located) will be released either tommorow or Sunday. Just need to clear some things with GF!

In lieu of character creation there are a few things to be aware of straight away:

- Magic is very untrusted in Gare and wizards are likely to be followed by pitchfork wielding mobs, if you wish to play a spellcaster your gonna have to be relatively secret about it. So casting spells where an NPC could see you is a sure way to get in trouble!

- Gare is an openly slave-owning society, justified through a variety of mechanisms. Its also not uncommon across the rest of the world so being outraged and shocked at slavery isn't really fitting the context. (Not to say don't be, but don't be on the principle we would find it deplorable)

- Solan is a depressing, small, uninteresting Town. Its full of depressed peasants and the ilk. Gare itself is a totalitarian feudal state. though more on this will come out shortly. Adventurers are not respected and seen kinda as odd job people to turn to when no alternative is avaliable

The Future

- A lot of the features of Khalidine are not up and running yet, Alban's AI system, the crafting system (is finished but not ingame), developed static quests. We will be working to implement all of these within a timely fashion, but we ask for your patience if things take a while! (Most of the team having that unfortunate thing RL getting in the way *shudders*)

- DM quests, the DM corp is small at the minute, and most of the DMs also have other responsibilities which will diminish during beta as bugs, systems and the lore are all finished. We will be looking for appropriate individuals to join the corp, but not straight away, we're changing the DM rules and will not be recruiting random people to be DMs and instead will (hopefully) only recruit DMs from players with at least 3 or 4 weeks of active play on Khalidine (if not more).

General

Any comments, ideas, opinions please do post them in the forum! Oh and come join us in IRC (#khalidine on irc.nwn2source.net)

Hope to see you all ingame soon!
